This role is to support the implementation of the new UKRI Open Access policy, which will involve removing barriers to researchers, detecting non-compliance, and intervening to ensure compliance. Under the supervision of Engagement Librarians, the post holder will engage with Researchers and other stakeholders to ensure the Open Access policy is fully understood and those affected are aware of routes to compliance.

The post holder will review and update reports on the University’s volume of publishing, checking recently published research outputs for funder and data statements, licenses, and their deposit status in our institutional repository. The post holder will have attention to detail, checking large datasets of publication data and ensuring they are presented in a standard format. Where a need for new processes, workflows, or systems is identified the post holder will inform decisions and implement them. The work will also involve updating and maintaining records in the institutional repository, quality assurance checks on the library website and any other clerical activities as advised by the team.

The post holder will provide a comprehensive service to the research and postgraduate community, making the full range of research outputs across the University available through the institutional research repository (ePrints) and research management system (PURE). A key element of the role is making judgements that ensure individual outputs are within the scope as required by various external stakeholders, including UKRI’s open access policy. The post holder will resolve enquiries from researchers and external users of the repository globally. The post holder may be required to manage the end of day process independently, which will require attention to detail, and confidence in routines.

The post holder will be working with computer systems which they are unlikely to be familiar with; training, resources and managerial support will be provided, but confidence and an ability to pick up skills quickly is desirable. A basic understanding of referencing, bibliographic data and publishing practices would be helpful. Knowledge of working with structured data and previous quality assurance experience is highly desirable. Understanding how to work in Excel is necessary and knowledge of R Project or similar coding experience is desirable. Please see the Job Description for further details.
