Postdoctoral studies in Circuit Mechanisms in motivated behaviors (scholarship)

Do you want to contribute to better health for all?

The Meletis Lab is part of an outstanding scientific environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure and with many opportunities for collaborations and interdisciplinary training.

Division

The Meletis Laboratory at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm has an open position for a postdoctoral fellow to investigate circuit mechanisms in motivated behaviors. We want to recruit a new member with expertise in investigating circuits, and with the ambition to make significant contributions to our understanding of the organization and function of circuits that control motivated behaviors. The successful candidate will investigate how the organization of circuits and neurons types serves to produce the complexity of motivated behaviors and define circuit dysfunction in disease-relevant mouse models.

The project will take advantage of advanced methods in systems neuroscience including cell-type specific in vivo imaging (e.g. photometry, miniscopes), cell-type specific manipulation during behavior (e.g. optogenetics), wholebrain circuit tracing, Patch-seq, and mapping of neuron identity using molecular methods (e,g, snRNA-seq and genetic labeling).

Duties

  • Designing and performing experiments to define the role of neurons and circuits in motivated behaviors
  • Analyzing wholebrain tracing, behavioral, and imaging data
  • Collaborating with other lab members
  • Presenting research in seminars and conferences
  • Writing papers and grant proposals
  • Mentoring and training graduate and undergraduate students

Qualifications

A Ph.D. with a strong background in neuroscience.

Experience with mouse behavior, in vivo imaging or electrophysiology, optogenetics, and circuit tracing methods.

Strong analytical and programming skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

The ability to work collaboratively in a team.

Entry requirements

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Location: Solna

Type of scholarship

The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.

Application process

An application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:

  • A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work
  • A complete list of publications
  • A summary of current work (no more than one page)

The application is to be submitted on the Varbi recruitment system.
