| Position Description: | Postdoctoral Research Scholar Soft Robotics IIHR – Hydroscience & Engineering (https://www.iihr.uiowa.edu/ ) and the College of Engineering (https://engineering.uiowa.edu/ ) at the University of Iowa (https://uiowa.edu/ ) seeks a highly motivated postdoctoral research scholar to conduct research with Dr. Caterina Lamuta (https://engineering.uiowa.edu/people/caterina-lamuta ). The initial appointment is full-time for one year with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and availability of continued funding. This is an immediate opening and applications will be considered until a successful candidate has been identified. Research will focus on design, manufacturing, testing, and control of a novel soft robot for underwater applications powered by artificial muscles. Key areas of responsibility include:

| Education Requirement: | Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant science or engineering field prior to starting this position is required. |
| Required Qualifications: | Prior experience and significant level of expertise with/in mechanical design and manufacturing Familiarity with FEM analysis Experience with CAD modeling Prior experience and significant level of expertise using Matlab/Simulink Prior experience in robotics Demonstrated knowledge of implementation of control algorithms for robotic devices Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills. |
| Desirable Qualifications: | Previous experience with the design and testing of soft robotic devices Previous experience presenting results at scientific conferences and established publication record. |
