Postdoctoral Researcher (f/m/d) in the field of brown algae
Max Planck Institute for Biology Tübingen, Tübingen
Job Offer from November 02, 2022
The Max Planck Institute for Biology Tübingen , Department of Algal Development and Evolution seeks a Postdoctoral Researcher (f/m/d) in the field of brown algae.
Job description
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to lead an ambitious program aiming at unraveling the mechanisms underlying the determination of cell types in the brown alga Ectocarpus. Brown algae ‘invented’ multicellularity independently of plants and animals and the molecular basis of their development remains largely unknown. Our goal is to identify master regulators of multicellular development using a combination of forward and reverse genetics and genomics on the model organism Ectocarpus. The project is funded by the Moore Foundation and brings together experimental and theoretical groups in Germany and France with complementary expertise in algal genetics and cellular phenotyping, single-cell genomics, computational biology and theoretical modeling.
Requirements
We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher, with a strong background in developmental and/or cell biology. Knowledge and demonstrated experience in genetics, molecular biology, mutant analysis, reverse genetics and data analysis is necessary. Experience in computational biology (transcriptomics, mapping by sequencing, ChIPseq,…) is a plus. Candidates should have an advanced academic degree (Ph.D.) in biology, genomics, biochemistry, biotechnology or a related field and have published previously in peer-reviewed journals. The candidate should be able to work independently and also have excellent team working skills. The position further requires organizational qualifications and the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external collaborators. An excellent written and oral command of English is essential. No previous experience in algal research is necessary.
Your application
The position is available from January 2023. Candidates will be offered a salary based on German TVöD guidelines according to previous experience and qualifications.
Applicants should submit a cover letter describing their interest in this position, a CV, contact for at least two references, certificates (in a single PDF document) to [email protected] by 15December 2022. Applications should be written in English.
