Job Summary
The Phifer-Rixey Lab is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher. The lab is engaged with a variety of integrative projects investigating evolutionary genetics. The successful candidate will work closely with Dr. Phifer-Rixey to contribute to projects combining field, bench, and computational approaches, primarily in house mice. In addition, there is support available for the successful candidate to develop related projects in their area of interest. This is a one-year position with continuation after the first year based on availability of funds and performance.
Other Duties:
- Maintenance of sampling and data collection equipment and supplies
- Assist with outreach and education related initiatives
- Attend and present at regional and national scientific meetings
- Coordinate with collaborators
- Other duties as assigned
Essential Functions
- Contribute to field, laboratory, and computational research activities relating to evolutionary genetics including, but not limited to, sampling/phenotyping house mice, experimental design, extracting nucleic acids, generating next generation sequencing libraries, and analyzing next generation sequencing data in an evolutionary context.
- Travel for sampling and data collection
- Curation of data and documentation of research activities and analysis
- General lab activities including, but not limited to, ordering supplies, cleaning equipment, organizing waste disposal, recording activities in paper and electronic notebooks, and mentoring undergraduates
- Contributing to the formal dissemination of research results via presentations, publications, and other media
Required Qualifications
- PhD or Doctorate in Biology or a related field
- 1 year of experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to work independently in the field or the laboratory
- Previous experience with field and/or laboratory research
- Ability to travel
- Ability to work extended periods when sampling in the field. Ability to lift 30 pounds repeatedly
- Valid Driver’s license (U.S.A) or ability to obtain one within one month of hire

- Lifting demands ≤ 50lbs
