About This Opportunity 

The primary purpose of this role is to engage, as a postdoctoral researcher in the Centre for Advanced Imaging, as well as work within the laboratories of PEF. Specifically, this role will focus on the discovery, development and production of recombinant targeting proteins, as well as development of protein modification technologies for application in technologies such as radiotheranostics.

 Key responsibilities will include: 

• Conduct and support recombinant protein production projects, including molecular engineering, protein expression, purification and protein characterisation

• Collaboratively support research projects across the broad field of radiopharmaceutical development from industry and academia

• Conduct research and publish scholarly papers as part of facilitating research in protein science and the radiopharmaceutical space.

• Where applicable, jointly supervise and mentor research students on related research topics

• Work with colleagues and postgraduates in the development of joint research projects

• Where applicable perform routine maintenance of laboratory equipment

• Maintain accurate and up to date laboratory book records

• Teach and supervise research honours and postgraduate students where required

• Perform administrative duties as they relate to research projects and managing research resources

About You  

Essential

• PhD in the area of biochemistry, molecular biology, protein science or an equivalent combination of relevant experiences, training or education.

• Demonstrated proficiency in recombinant protein production using one or more expression hosts

• Demonstrated proficiency in protein purification and characterisation

• Demonstrated ability to design, execute and manage research projects

• Demonstrated ability in data analysis, record keeping, report writing and presentation of research results

• Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise own workload, work independently and meet deadlines whilst maintain attention to detail.

• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students and volunteers, with strong interpersonal skills and excellent written and oral skills

• Evidence of a contribution to research, including peer reviewed publications and/or applications for external grant funding.

Desirable

• Experience in protein modification, site direct mutagenesis, protein ligation or bioconjugation.  

• Experience in organic/inorganic synthetic chemistry.

• Knowledge of radiochemistry methodology, or organic/inorganic synthetic chemistry where applications in radiopharmaceuticals is evident

• Experience in liaising and collaborating with external agencies to develop co-operative research initiatives, in particular biotechnology and therapeutic companies.

• Experience in medical imaging and its wider application to a broad range of research topics. 

What We Can Offer 

This is a full-time, fixed-term position through to 17 October 2024 at Academic Level A. 

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $72,144.35 to $96,530.67 plus

super of up to 17%.
