Postdoctoral Researcher

We are looking to appoint a Postdoctoral Researcher to collaborate with Professor Andrew Przybylski to undertake the quantitative analysis of large-scale social, medical, and epidemiological data to investigate three research questions including:

RQ1.     Has there actually been a significant decrease in adolescent wellbeing in the last decade?

RQ2.     Are shifts, both increases and decreases, consistent between technologically saturated and developing nations?

RQ3.     How do these shifts in well-being (mis) align with technological events and the reduction of mental health stigma in different cultures?

This program of research aims to address the assumptions that the overall mental well-being of young people is undergoing a pronounced period of decline and that this may be driven by digital technologies. This is a full time, fixed-term post until 31st October 2024.

Tasks include:

•         Managing own academic research and administrative duties.

•         Adapting existing and developing new research methodologies and materials.

•         Preparing working theories and analysing quantitative data.

•         Contributing ideas for new research projects involving linking well-being to online trace data and games and social media platform telemetry.

•         Providing guidance to junior members of the research group including research assistants, PhD students, and/or project volunteers.

The ideal candidate should hold a relevant qualitive-focused doctorate, have previous experience of contributing to publications and be able to analyse large-scale quantitative social data. They will also have experience with general linear and non-linear modelling, multilevel modelling, time series analysis, classical test theory, item response theory, gaussian modelling, and psychometrical approaches. Knowledge of statistical programming and data visualisation is also required.

Desirable skills include having experience with meta-scientific inquiry, building interactive statistical tools and collecting and analysing large-scale behavioural data.
