Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Sustainable Smart Cities and Regions

  • Centre for Smart Analytics – Berwick, Ballarat or Churchill Campus
  • Full-time, fixed-term appointment until 1 December 2023
  • Academic Level A6 – $89,651 p.a. plus up to 17% superannuation

About the role

As part of a team developing and commercialising customised software tools and interfaces for small-to-medium enterprises to seamlessly integrate smart services and accelerate growth and productivity you will support the research, collaboration, and training of the ongoing and future research projects in the Sustainable Smart Cities and Regions (SSCR).

You will:

  • conduct scholarly research on artificial intelligence techniques and next-generation intelligent sensor applications in image/video analytics, Internet-of Things (IoT) and other distributed computing, smart homes and industrial automation;
  • develop literature reviews and maintain data and knowledge repositories to support the research activities;
  • contribute to computer programming relating to research activities; and
  • prepare research findings leading to the publication of peer-reviewed journal papers and the presentation of research findings in a variety of forums.

About you

You will hold a doctorate in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or Applied Mathematics with research experience in artificial intelligence, specifically in one or more of the application areas—sensor networks & IoT, computer vision, and/or smart homes/cities.

You will possess demonstrated:

  • experience developing computer software, using machine learning, sensor networks and/or image and video processing toolboxes;
  • experience preparing and publishing research material including reports, journal and presentations; and evidence of research expertise and demonstrated capacity to achieve an active research profile in the relevant fields of research.
  • capacity to contribute to the supervision of honours and/or higher degree by research students.
