Postdoctoral Research Fellow – Statistics and Artificial Intelligence for Healthcare

Macquarie University

PRIMARY DETAIL

We’re seeking an enthusiastic post-doctoral researcher to participate in an established research program addressing barriers to implementing artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare.

THE ROLE

  • Salary Package: Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Level A), from $97,620 to $104,621 p.a. plus 17% employer’s superannuation and annual leave loading.

  • Appointment type: Full-time, fixed-term position for 2 years

  • Macquarie University (North Ryde) location

About the Role

We’re seeking an enthusiastic post-doctoral researcher to participate in an established research program addressing barriers to implementing artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare. The goal of the program is to research, develop and evaluate a new generation of statistical and related methods for assessing and enhancing the transportability and generalisability of healthcare AI into real life settings. The research will be conducted as part of an NHMRC funded project. You will be working with a cross-disciplinary group of highly experienced and internationally recognised researchers at the Centre for Health Informatics, at the Australian Institute of Health Innovation (AIHI) at Macquarie University and collaborating with other research groups.

About You

You will bring your expertise in statistical prediction or machine learning methods to a multi-disciplinary team to help the team to develop real-world systems supporting tasks such as diagnosis and treatment recommendation. We are looking both for academic rigour and outputs, as well as practical analytical skills, proven problem-solving experience, and ability to interact with internal and external stakeholders. Ideally, you will have some experience with health data sets and population analyses (although this is not essential), and working in a collaborative cross-disciplinary setting. You will be a good communicator, passionate about your research, and enjoy working in a dynamic team. You will continue to develop and expand your own research strengths and interests, particularly as they align with the Centre’s research programs.

About Us

Macquarie is the university of pioneering minds. Globally recognised as one of Australia’s leading research universities, Macquarie is a place where extraordinary new possibilities come to light. We’ve helped people to hear, introduced wireless internet technology to the world, and broken through traditional boundaries by appointing Australia’s first female vice-chancellor.

Macquarie University’s Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences builds on our aspiration to have the nation’s first fully integrated Academic Health Sciences Centre under a university’s leadership. It brings together the excellent work of medical and allied-health clinicians and researchers across the University and around the country, with unparalleled access to world-leading clinical resources and research facilities found only on our campus. Our Faculty hosts the Australian Institute of Health Innovation (AIHI), an internationally acclaimed powerhouse researching health systems, digital health and patient safety.

The Centre for Health Informatics (CHI) was Australia’s first digital health research centre and its researchers explore applications of novel digital technologies in healthcare. We have a specific focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its implications for transforming models of care, driving system-wide change and delivering more personalised healthcare. The Centre leads a number of large-scale NHMRC projects in digital health and in 2018 established the Australian Alliance for Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare. CHI is a research partner to major healthcare providers, research institutions and governments, and has national and international industry partnerships. The Centre generates high-impact research and works with many large Australian and international Electronic Health Record datasets and its staff have expertise in the development and implementation of state-of-the-art artificial intelligence (AI) methods.
