The position

A Postdoctoral Research Fellow position is available at the Department of Chemistry , Faculty of Sciene and Technology with the research group Hylleraas Centre for Quantum Molecular Sciences , a Norwegian Centre of Excellence.

The position is a fixed term position for a duration of three years. Appointment to the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow is mainly intended to provide qualification for work in top academic positions. It is a prerequisite that the applicant can carry out the project over the full course of the employment period. No person may hold more than one fixed term position as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the same institution.

The workplace is at UiT in Tromsø. You must be able to start in the position within a reasonable time after receiving the offer.

The position’s field of research

The research group develops a novel quantum chemistry code called MRChem which makes use of Multiwavelets to describe orbitals and densities, yielding Complete Basis Set (CBS) results for energy and molecular properties.

The successful candidate will be integrated into the group and will contribute to the development and implementation of various methods and tools in MRChem. Several improvements within the framework of Density Functional Theory can be envisaged, giving ample opportunity for creative scientific work and personal growth. Among them are a fast DFT solver for large systems, the interface for range-separation and meta-GGA functionals, the interface for property calculations at arbitrary perturbation order, the development of relativistic methods, methods to treat time propagation.

You can submit a vision statement for how they will strengthen research activities at the department/in the research group/research project, max 2 pages.

You can submit a description of your past research project(s) and its relevance to the advertised position, max 3 pages.

The research environment

The MRChem group currently consists of the Principal Investigator, two adjunct professors, two part-time researchers, one postdoc and three PhD students. The MRChem group holds a prestigious FRIPRO grant for the development of relativistic methods using multiwavelets, and it is well integrated in the Hylleraas Centre for Quantum Molecular Science, which hosts more than 60 scientists at all levels and is shared between Tromsø and Oslo. Thanks to the recent FRIPRO funding, and to the Hylleraas Centre, the MRChem group is an exciting place to work offering ample opportunity for a scientist to grow, establish new collaborations and tackle challenging scientific problems.
