Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Phosphorus Transport in Urban Watersheds

The RESTORE Research Group in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Western University is seeking a post-doctoral research fellow to conduct research on identifying seasonal phosphorus sources in urban watersheds and evaluating the impact of stormwater management practices including low impact development (LID) systems on non-point source phosphorus loads.  The postdoctoral research fellow will conduct detailed field monitoring in a target urban watershed and use appropriate modeling techniques (e.g., US EPA SWMM or other suitable watershed/water quality model) to simulate phosphorus transport and the impacts of stormwater management practices.

The project is funded by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks to address their priority to evaluate and reduce non-point source phosphorus loads in the Lake Erie Basin.  The selected candidate will join a project research team that includes two graduate students and technical experts from the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks, and the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority. Responsibilities for the position include designing and executing field monitoring, leading urban hydrology and water quality modeling, communicating research outcomes through publications and presentations, and coordinating with the research team.

Applicants must have a strong background in stormwater management including experience in urban hydrological modeling. Preference will also be given to applicants with experience in (a) non-point source nutrient (phosphorus) loads, (b) design and execution of field monitoring in urban watersheds, and (c) LID stormwater practices.  Post-doctoral associate applicants must have a PhD in a relevant discipline and publications in highly respected international journals.  The successful candidate will be an independent researcher that excels at leading their own research within a highly collaborative and well-resourced environment.

The successful candidate will join the RESTORE Research Group (https://www.eng.uwo.ca/restore/) which has recently been awarded over $6M to conduct field, experimental and modeling investigations focused on understanding pollutant fate in the environment.  RESTORE is a growing, well-recognized research group with more than 20 graduate students, research engineers and laboratory technicians working in five well-equipped laboratories and modeling offices. Western University is a leading Canadian academic institution that is committed to excelling as an innovative research-intensive university.
