Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Computational Astrophysics (ref 234549)

University of Oslo

The position is funded by the European Commission and the Research Council of Norway through the EuroHPC Centre of Excellence “Scalable Parallel and Distributed Astrophysics Code for Exascale (SPACE)”.

The successful candidate will collaborate with Dr. Sijing Shen and other scientific and industrial partners in the Consortium to work on co-designing and improving the scalability of widely-used Astrophysical and Cosmology codes and preparing them for the next generation exascale systems. Meanwhile, the candidate is encouraged to carry out independent research and collaborate with Dr. Shen and others in the simulation group at ITA on various topics including galaxy formation simulations, cosmic magnetic fields, modelling of the circumgalactic medium, radiative and mechanical feedback processes and galactic chemical evolution. As a science partner of a large computational consortium, the successful candidate will have secured access to a large amount HPC resources, as the Consortium includes direct participation of supercomputing centres across Europe.

We are seeking a candidate with a strong background in numerical galaxy formation, numerical (mageto-)hydrodynamics and/or high-performance computing. Prior experiences with the ChaNGa code or its precursor code Gasoline is desirable, but not necessary. In selection, the academic quality and promise of the candidates will be of primary importance.
