Job Summary
Dr. Ying Wang (Department of Pathology and Medicine) and Dr. Gordon Francis (Department of Medicine) at UBC, are recruiting a postdoctoral fellow to work on a collaborative research project at the Centre for Heart Lung Innovation, St. Paul’s Hospital. The project will be multidisciplinary combining vascular biology, spatial biology and bioinformatic methods to study atherosclerotic disease using biobanked human specimens, cultured cells, and animal models. For details, please see https://wanglab.med.ubc.ca/research/ and https://www.hli.ubc.ca/researchers/gordon-francis/
Drs. Wang and Francis are committed to training postdoctoral research fellows who have a career goal to be independent researchers in academia or industry. The selected trainee will be supported by the New Frontiers in Research Fund (PI: Dr. Ying Wang) and two CIHR project grants (PI: Dr. Ying Wang & Dr. Gordon Francis). The applicant is highly encouraged to apply for fellowship funding.
The research labs are located at the Centre for Heart Lung Innovation (HLI), UBC’s Senate-approved translational research centre for heart, lung, and blood vessel research. It is ideally situated within St. Paul’s Hospital (downtown Vancouver), a tertiary care hospital, which has been the catalyst for the creation of world-class tissue biobanks to support heart and lung research. The HLI is known for its capacity and mission to “train the world”, and has recruited top highly-qualified personnel from over 39 countries and 6 continents. The postdoctoral fellow in this position will be supported by career development programs at both the HLI and the Departments of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, and Medicine.
This position is located within a health-care facility. Therefore, this position requires successful verification of full vaccination against Covid-19 provided prior to the start date, as required by the provincial health mandate.
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at UBC is a hybrid, academically intensive Department within the UBC Faculty of Medicine whose activities span a broad spectrum of teaching, research, and academic service, often performed in the milieu of clinical practice, and are ultimately devoted to improving the care, treatment, and well-being of patients. The Department offers academic degrees at the bachelor’s (Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLSc)) and graduate (MSc, PhD) levels with the graduate program, one of the largest in the Faculty of Medicine, which has been recognized by UBC for its quality. The Department plays a major role in the MD undergraduate program and offers an accredited residency-training program. Faculty members participate across a spectrum of research from basic investigative to translational to clinical applied research and are recognized locally, nationally and internationally for their excellence.
