We are seeking a qualified postdoctoral fellow to investigate bee diseases and pollination ecology as part of a Hort Innovation Australia project within the School of Natural Sciences at Macquarie University.

The Role

We are seeking a qualified postdoctoral fellow to investigate bee diseases and pollination ecology as part of a Hort Innovation Australia project within the School of Natural Sciences at Macquarie University.

The successful candidate will work closely with Dr Ponton, Dr Narendra and colleagues at the School of Natural Sciences. As a postdoctoral fellow you will conduct independent research to develop and implement probiotics to increase resistance of the European honeybee to bacterial and fungal diseases. You will be responsible for isolating and culturing different strains and will have opportunities to measure the efficiency of probiotics.

Essential Criteria

  • PhD in Biological sciences or a closely related field

  • Evidence of emerging track record evidenced by research outputs including high quality publications.

  • Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills and to foster relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders

  • A strong understanding of bee ecology and pollination biology

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research independently and effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team.

  • Experience in supervising postgraduate students is considered favourably

Desirable Criteria

  • Understanding of microbiological skills

  • Good knowledge of insect immunity and nutrition.

Salary package: Level A Step 6 (PhD) from $97,621 to $104,622 per annum, plus 17% employer’s superannuation and annual leave loading

Appointment Type: Full-time, fixed term for a period of 36 months with potential for extension.
