About This Opportunity
The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will be focused on the development of an early diagnostic and prognostic tool for disorders of the central nervous system (e.g., traumatic brain injury and glioblastoma).
The successful applicant will be required to overcome fundamental challenges associated with discovering biomarkers of central nervous diseases, establishing microfluidic devices for diseases detection, and collaborating with clinicians for translational applications.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Research
Develop a research program around the development of nanoparticle devices for central nervous diseases
Work collaboratively with project partners and other staff
Rigorously document new scientific findings
Actively protect new intellectual property arising from the project
Publish scholarly papers in leading research journals
Seek external funding for the project from granting agencies and industrial partnerships
Identify new collaborative opportunities and work with colleagues and postgraduates in the development of joint research projects.
2. Supervision and Researcher Development
Contribute to the effective supervision of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students (as appropriate).
Demonstrates personal effectiveness in supervision and the management of researcher development.
Effective lead and develop supervisee performance and conduct by providing feedback, coaching, and professional development.
As appropriate, manage research support staff effectively throughout the employee lifecycle in accordance with University policy and procedures.
Working to promptly resolve conflict and grievances when they arise in accordance with University policy and procedure
3. Citizenship and Service
Contribute to the processes that enable the academic team to manage the work of the Institute, including participate in Institute decision-making and serve on Institute committees
Foster the Institute’s relations with industry, government departments, professional bodies and the wider community.
Demonstrate citizenship behaviours that align to the UQ values.
Shows leadership of self through collaboration and active participation in priority activities for the unit
Provide support to other academic positions and unit operations as needed during other team members absences.
Contribute to internal service roles and administrative processes as required, including participation in decision-making and service on relevant committees.
Collaborate in service activities external to the immediate organisation unit.
4. Other
Ensure you are aware of and comply with legislation and University policy relevant to the duties undertaken, including but not exclusive to:
The University’s Code of Conduct .
Requirements of the Queensland occupational health and safety (OH&S) legislation and related OH&S responsibilities and procedures developed by the University or Institute/School.
The adoption of sustainable practices in all work activities and compliance with associated legislation and related University sustainability responsibilities and procedures .
Requirements of the Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000, the National Code 2007 and associated legislation, and related responsibilities and procedures developed by the University.
About You
PhD in the area of nanotechnology, microfluidics, and central nervous diseases
Demonstrated expert knowledge in the area of microfluidic chip design
Demonstrated expert knowledge in extracellular vesicle biology
An ability to establish effective relationships and to represent and promote their academic discipline at a university and wider community level, including industry, government, and professional bodies.
Evidence of a contribution to research, including publication of high impact peer-reviewed journal articles
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
Commitment to upholding the University’s values, and with the outstanding personal qualities of openness, respectfulness, and integrity
Desirable
Experience in the diagnosis and management of traumatic brain injury and glioblastoma
Developed industry liaisons and professional contacts.
Experience in liaising and collaborating with external agencies to develop co-operative research initiatives.
What We Can Offer
This is a full-time, fixed term position to May 2025 at Academic Level A.
The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $72,144.35 – $96,530.67 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $84,408.89 – 112,940.88 per annum.
