Job Summary

Dr. Janice Leung at UBC, Division of Respiratory Medicine, Department of Medicine, is recruiting for a postdoctoral fellow to join her research laboratory located at Centre for Heart Lung Innovation, St. Paul’s Hospital. Her translational research group focuses on mechanisms of chronic lung disease in patients living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), combining ‘omics technologies and novel imaging platforms including bronchoscopy. Goals of this post-doctoral fellowship will be to launch junior researchers into academia or industry. The selected trainee will be supported by operating grant funds and is highly encouraged to apply for fellowship funding.

Candidates for this postdoctoral fellowship should have experience in advanced airway imaging, including optical coherence tomography, and in exercise physiology.

This position is located within a health-care facility. Therefore, this position requires successful verification of full vaccination against Covid-19 provided prior to the start date, as required by the provincial health mandate.

Work Performed

The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Design and implement experiments and analytical pipelines for optical coherence tomography and exercise testing in patients living with HIV
  • Periodic presentations at lab meetings and conferences
  • Training and mentoring junior trainees
  • Grant and manuscript writing
  • Work in a multidisciplinary, collaborative environment
  • Assist with the routine operation and management of the laboratory

Supervision Received

Reports to Dr. Janice Leung. Must be highly self-directed, taking initiative and working independently under the general direction of the PI and as part of a project team environment.

Supervision Exercised

Assigns work to research assistants, graduate and undergraduate students, and research interns as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Recent PhD graduate
  • Applicants need to have a strong background in optical coherence tomography and exercise physiology
  • Applicants must be proficient in statistical analysis
