Job description

Applications are invited for a 3-year position as postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Psychology, University of Oslo. An extension of up to one year can be considered with the addition of up to 25% teaching and administrative duties, depending on the competence of the applicant and the needs of the department. The position is co-funded by the Research Council of Norway and the University of Oslo as part of a Large-scale Interdisciplinary Researcher Project (Fellesløftet).

Through a close collaboration between several partners and by combining environmental and genetic data with brain imaging and clinical measures, the project aims to increase our understanding of mental disorders and other conditions affecting the brain. The candidate will be integrated with the Multimodal Imaging group  and will have an important role in the project team, which includes several postdoctoral and Ph.D. fellows and colleagues at all levels both at the University of Oslo and Oslo University Hospital. Key tasks include to develop and implement AI-based analysis (e.g. deep learning) to integrate neuroimaging, clinical and genetic data across international cohorts, and to interpret and prepare results for publication and other forms of dissemination. Additionally, the candidate is expected to contribute to the harmonised data management structure and liaison with national and international collaborators.

Qualification requirements and personal skills

The following criteria are required:

• Applicants must hold a doctoral (ph.d. or equivalent) degree in psychology, medicine, biology or computational neuroscience or genetics, or similar. Candidates who will complete and defend their degree within the starting date will be considered.
• Previous experience with analysis of genetic and brain MRI data.
• Previous experience with statistical analysis and programming (R, python or similar).
• Previous experience with neuroimaging processing tools (FreeSurfer, FSL or others).
• Hands-on experience with deep learning frameworks (Tensorflow, pytorch or similar).
• Excellent communication and collaborative skills (team player).
• Excellent English scientific writing skills.

The following criteria are advantageous:

• Previous experience with predictive modelling of clinical conditions based on brain MRI data.
• Previous experience with processing, curating and unifying large neuroimaging datasets.
• Previous experience with interdisciplinary and international research projects.
• Documented interest in and experience with mental health research.
• Experience with supervising students.
• Documented experience with Open science practices and open-source technology.

This is a project funded by the Research Council of Norway and applicants with a previous postdoctoral fellowship funded by the research council cannot be appointed for this position.
