Postdoctoral Research Fellow

  • Full time fixed term contract for 12 months with the potential to extend

  • Base Salary starting from $113,184 + 17% superannuation 

About the opportunity

The Sydney School of Nursing is in a period of exciting and significant investment in the Faculty of Medicine and Health and in order to deliver on the University’s ambitious strategic plan, the University is seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow to assist our research team to lead research in secondary prevention and cardiac rehabilitation services. Our team uses a national multidisciplinary collaborative approach and includes researchers and clinicians with allied health, nursing, cardiology and public health backgrounds. Our team partners with quality improvement organisations to improve patient outcomes following a heart disease diagnosis and we work with data and electronic data platforms to achieve this. This position presents an outstanding opportunity for an ambitious early career researcher who seeks to progress their career and work in a supportive, creative, flexible research environment. You will work with the Chief Investigators of quality improvement in cardiac rehabilitation research and be encouraged to pursue education and development opportunities pertinent to your role and research interests.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Undertake analysis of clinical data and work as part of a collaborative local and national team

  • oversee and assist with the collection of clinical data as part of ongoing research projects

  • write project reports, conference presentations, and journal manuscripts (including data management/preparation, statistical analysis and writing)

  • assist with the preparation of grant applications (institutional and national schemes)

  • contribute and develop research ideas

  • build and maintain a reputation for academic excellence, to expand knowledge and practice

  • work with the Chief Investigators of quality improvement in cardiac rehabilitation research and be encouraged to pursue education and development opportunities pertinent to your role and research interests.

About you

  • A recent doctoral qualification in a relevant discipline (medicine or health) with strong cross disciplinary interests

  • willingness to conduct quality improvement in cardiac rehabilitation research and closely related themes aligned with project objectives

  • excellent interpersonal skills that will enable networking across a range of stakeholder groups and maintaining collaborative working relationships

  • high level written and oral communication and presentation skills. 

  • manuscript preparation skills with an excellent track record of peer-reviewed publications in relevant field

  • the ability to work independently, conceive, initiate, organize and manage projects

  • experience with funding applications for research grants and/or research fellowships

  • high levels of motivation and the ambition to develop a research career in a relevant discipline

  • leadership – 2 direct reports.

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
