Offer DescriptionThe Department of Agrobiotechnology, IFA-Tulln, Institute of Bioanalytics and Agro-Metabolomics is currently seeking a PostdoctoralResearch Associate.Extent of employment: 40 hours per weekWorkplace: 3430 Tulln an der DonauDuration of employment: as of now, permanentGross monthly salary and pay grade in terms of collective agreement for university staff (payable 14 times per year): B1 lit. b, € 4.752,30Responsibilities:

  • ANALYSIS & INTERPRETATION OF OMICS DATA
  • Conducting bioinformatic analyses/evaluations of data sets from biological experiments with a special focus on instrumental analytics (e.g. GC-MS and LC-HRMS/MS) and metobolobics
  • Integration of multi-omics data sets for the interpretation of complex biological questions
  • Development and application of software algorithms and statistical models for the recognition and evaluation of daa patterns in experimental metabolobics dat
  • INTERDISCIPLINARY COLLABORATION
  • Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to plan experiments and ensure robust data collection, analysis and interpretation
  • Collaboration with chemists and biologists to provide and develop bioinformatics solutions
  • Providing technical expertise and training chemists in the use of bioinformatics software programs and methods
  • SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT
  • Development and maintenance of bioinformatics software programs and workflows for data processing
  • Ensuring and automating user-friendly data evaluation tools and workflows
  • Continuous improvement of bioinformatics software programs and analysis technology
  • RESEARCH & INNOVATION
  • Submission, processing and management of research projects aimed at integrating bioinformatics and analytical chemistry
  • Publishing research results in the form of reports, peer-reviewed articels and presentationsat scientific conferences
  • Identifying and pursuing opportunities for funding and collaborative research initiatives
  • TEACHING
  • Establish and contribute to courses that teach (untargeted) metobolomics, R and automated data analysis to students
  • Supervision of masters and PhD students

Required skills and qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree/PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology or similar
  • Fluent in English and German

Desired skills and qualifications:

  • BIOINFORMATICS
  • Expertise and experience in software development using common programming languages in the field of life sciences with a focus on metabolomics research and statistics (e.g. Python, R, Java)
  • Deailed knowledge of common statistical methods and their application in Omics research with a focus on metabolomics
  • Experience with specific databases and web servers for structure elucidation and annotation of small molecules
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of FAIR principles for data management
  • Experience with HPC environments (e.g. SLURM) and machine learning (e.g. TensorFlow, PyTorch) as well as Pipeline tools (e.g. SnakeMake, Galaxy)
  • ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY
  • Sound knowledge in the field of chromatography and mass spectrometry
  • Practical experience with common tolls and methods in untargeted metabolomics data analysis (e.g. raw data processing, molecular networks, MZmine, XCMS,SIRIUS)
  • Ability to critically evaluate, question and interpret analytical results in order to answer biological questions
  • Experience with vendor software for evaluation of analytical data (LC-HRMS, GC-MS, etc.)
  • SCIENTIFIC EXPERTISE
  • Proof of being able to evaluate data independently, critically and automatically and to interpret and summarize the results independently with regard to a scienfitic question
  • Ability and experience to prepare and present scientific results competently, critically and professionally and to write publications
  • Excellent communication skills in professional exchange with chemists and biologists as well as colleagues from related disciplines
  • OTHER DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Good organizational skills, management qualities and ability to work independently
  • Experience in projet management and reporting, as well as communication of research results
  • Experience in teaching and instructing users and students
  • independent publication activity in the field, presentation experience and good presentations skills
  • Experience in the conception and preparatin of scientific projects, as well as assocated project proposals
