Postdoctoral Research Associate – Oncology

University of Washington

Job Description

Position Summary

A postdoctoral position is open immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Matthew Walter at Washington University School of Medicine in the Division of Oncology and Section of Stem Cell Biology. Research opportunities are available for highly motivated individuals to join our interdisciplinary team studying blood cancers and the role of spliceosome gene mutations in the initiation and progression of myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). We combine in vivo, ex vivo, and in vitro methods to study pathogenic mechanisms. Ongoing projects are focused on understanding the mechanisms driving clonal hematopoiesis and the expansion of mutant cells in MDS and AML. Research approaches will include but not limited to the generation and use of novel mouse models of disease, hematopoietic stem cell assays, tumor biology, and next-generation DNA and RNA sequencing (including whole genome sequencing and single-cell RNA sequencing). Results from preclinical models are validated using the available large bank of primary patient samples and translated into ongoing clinical trials. The postdoctoral fellow will participate and lead research projects to address questions that are both fundamental in biology and highly relevant in the clinic.
