Postdoctoral Research Associate – Neurology

Job Description

Position Summary

The appointment is viewed as a training or transitional period preparatory to an academic, industrial, governmental, or other full-time research or teaching career. Learn and perform neuroimaging and laboratory based research.  Learn to train others in relevant techniques.  Produce scientific publications and learn to write grants. This position trains under the supervision of Scott A. Norris.

The appointment is of limited duration generally, not to exceed five years cumulatively unless there are extenuating circumstances. The appointment is not part of a clinical training program.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Learns PET image analysis and applies to an ongoing data set.
• Learns MRI image analysis and applies to an ongoing data set.
• Learns how to coordinate neuroimaging research data with behavioral data.
• Develops writing skills and prepares/submits papers on this research.
• Evaluates research findings and assists in the reporting of results.
• Presents scientific work both inside and outside the University.
• Assists with grant preparation and reporting.
• Assists in the design of research experiments.
• Maintains the conscientious discharge of their research responsibilities
• Maintains conformity with ethical standards in research.
• Complies with good laboratory practice, including the maintenance of adequate research records.
• Maintains open and timely discussion with their mentor regarding possession or distribution of material, reagents, or records belonging to their laboratory and any proposed disclosure of findings or techniques privately or in publications.
• Maintains collegial conduct towards co-trainees, staff members and members of the research group.
• Adheres to all applicable University policies, procedures and regulations.  All data, research records and materials and other intellectual property generated in University laboratories remain the property of the University.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D., M.D. or an equivalent terminal or doctoral degree.

Working Conditions

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, radioactive and chemical hazards.  The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment.

Salary Range

Base pay is commensurate with experience.
