The Fundamental Particle Physics group in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Liverpool invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Quantum Field Theory for Particle Physics and Precision Phenomenology starting in October 2023. The position is funded by an Science and Technology Facilities Council Consolidated Grant and is for two years initially, with the possibility of an extension to a third year depending on performance.
The focus of the project will be on perturbative precision calculations in the Standard Model and extensions beyond, including applications to effective field theories and lattice matching.
You will be expected to work with one or more colleagues, M. Gorbahn, J. Gracey, I. Jack, T. Teubner and A. Vogt, in the associated scientific area which also covers more formal aspects of quantum field theory, high order loop calculations and physics of extra light degrees of freedom.
Preference will be given to candidates with a strong research record and experience in the above areas. You should have a PhD by the starting date of the appointment and a track record of publications in internationally recognised journals. You will be expected to work effectively as a member of the research group in Fundamental Particle Physics, to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills and to be able to write clearly and succinctly for publication. You will be appointed in the Department of Mathematical Sciences, which is part of the School of Physical Sciences. You will not be expected to contribute to departmental teaching.
Informal enquiries can be directed to Dr Martin Gorbahn (martin.gorbahn@liverpool.ac.uk), Professor John Gracey (gracey@liverpool.ac.uk), or Professor Thomas Teubner (thomas.teubner@liverpool.ac.uk).
Applicants should apply through the Liverpool’s e-recruitment system, where the full job description is available, either by following the link below or by searching for the job reference at recruit.liverpool.ac.uk.
Applications should include the online form, cover letter/supporting statement, CV with list of publications and research statement. Two but not more than three letters of recommendation should be emailed to spshr@liverpool.ac.uk by the closing date of 1/12/2022.
The School of Physical Sciences is an Athena SWAN Silver Award holder and is committed to encouraging, developing and supporting women in their research and academic careers. We are working to create an inclusive environment which values a diverse workforce and we recognise that many individuals value flexibility in their work/life balance. We strongly encourage applications from groups underrepresented within our workforce, in particular women. The post is available on a fixed term basis, until 30 September 2026.
