Postdoctoral Research Associate in Cell Biology

University of Oxford

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate with experience in cell biology to join the recently established CRUK-funded group of Dr Ian Gibbs-Seymour in the Department of Biochemistry, University of Oxford. The group investigates mechanisms of ubiquitin-dependent signalling in DNA repair pathways. This is an excellent opportunity to play an integral role within a small team of researchers in a clinically-important and fast-moving field of biology. To address our research aims, we use a range of cutting-edge biochemical, cellular and genetic approaches, including microscopy, proteomics and CRISPR/Cas9 screening, which are supported both by the world-class facilities in the Department of Biochemistry and broader Oxford research environment. The successful candidate will join one of several ongoing projects in the laboratory, using mechanistic cell biology to delineate the functions of ubiquitin signalling in DNA repair.

Applicants should hold a PhD/DPhil, or be near to completing a PhD/DPhil, with a strong and proven background in mammalian cell biology. In addition, you should have proven experience in cellular biochemistry and proteomic approaches, together with experience in molecular biology techniques. It would be advantageous, though not essential, if you had relevant experience in DNA repair pathways and/or ubiquitin/ubiquitin-like modifiers. You should provide evidence of your research output by documentation of your publication record, either published or shortly forthcoming. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a research team are essential.

This full-time fixed-term post is funded by CRUK for up to 1 year in the first instance, with the possibility of extension, and is based at the Department of Biochemistry, South Parks Road, Oxford.

This position is graded on the University’s Grade 7 scale, for which the salary range is £34,308 – £42,155 per annum. The actual starting salary offered will be based on qualifications and relevant skills acquired and will also be determined by the funding available.

To apply for this role and for further details including the job description and selection criteria, please see the document below.  You will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your application.
