Postdoctoral Research Associate / Fellow in the BRAINS Programme

  • 2 x full time, fixed term until 30th June 2023. Located on the Camperdown Campus at the School of Psychology
  • Opportunity to improve the experience and care of people with brain cancer through a comprehensive programme of brain cancer survivorship research encompassing clinical pathways, models of care, information, and supportive care interventions
  • Base salary, level A/B $78,143 – $131,639 + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

The Psycho-Oncology Co-operative Research Group (PoCoG), School of Psychology is currently welcoming applications for two Postdoctoral Research Associates/Fellows to apply and develop their expertise in conducting research to further the Brains Programme. The Psycho-oncology Cooperative Research Group (PoCoG) is the lead of the four cooperative research groups involved in the BRAINS Programme. The successful applicant willapply their research expertise to meet the aims of the BRAINS program. BRAINS is an MRFF funded program of work aimed at delivering better survivorship and supportive care to people affected by brain cancer. This is a national program of work involving collaboration with clinicians, researchers, and brain cancer advocates across Australia. Key outcomes of the work are to improve our understanding of the frequency and severity of symptoms and need in people with brain cancers and their caregivers. Using this knowledge, we are developing clinical pathways for supportive care and improved models of care coordination to ensure care is delivered in a way that is responsive, timely, and proportionate to the severity and urgency of individual needs.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • work as part of the BRAINS team, comprising leading psycho-oncology, supportive care, and brain cancer clinicians across Australia, to conduct research addressing the key themes of the program which includes identification of patient and caregiver needs and models of survivorship care
  • develop, execute, and report results from mixed methods, quantitative, qualitative, and implementation methodology studies
  • work closely with stakeholder groups to ensure models and clinical pathways are fit for purpose and sustainable
  • contribute to the supervision of undergraduate and higher degree student projects.

About you

  • a PHD (or near completion) in Psychology, Health, Health Science, Medicine, Nursing or other Allied Health related field
  • the ability to communicate effectively across a range of media and forums
  • a developing network of relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders
  • a developing research profile demonstrated by original, high-quality and independent research in the discipline or area of expertise
  • experience with mixed methods, qualitative, quantitative, clinical trials, and/or implementation science research
  • an interest in brain cancer survivorship, psycho-oncology, and/or supportive care research
  • previous research and/or collaborations in brain cancer survivorship and/or models of care is desirable.

The commencement level will be determined based on the candidate’s skills, experience, and knowledge.

Please note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
