The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to serve as a member of the Neuroscience and Experimental Therapeutics team. Job Description Summary: The Postdoctoral Research Associate, under general direction, will be responsible for conducting research into risk and resiliency factors that contribute to adverse infant outcomes due to prenatal alcohol exposure, using pre-clinical rodent models as well as studies in human populations. The research will be multidisciplinary and entail molecular and cellular as well as systems biology approaches, with a specific focus on non-protein-coding RNA biology. The appointed fellow will be expected to be familiar with statistical analyses and be willing to train in multivariable analyses and the handling of large genomic and transcriptomic datasets.
Required Education:
- Appropriate doctoral degree.
Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Education:
- PhD in molecular biology or related discipline.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with molecular assays for RNA and protein analysis, animal handling, diagnostics/biomarker development.
- Experience with statistical analyses, preferably within the ‘R’ programming environment.
- Experience with writing and publishing research manuscripts.
- Experience with writing grant proposals.
- Experience working with diverse individuals and communities.
Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Skills in animal handling, data analysis and scientific writing.
Job Responsibilities
Conduct of Research Studies
- Conducts studies using cell culture and animal models of alcohol and drug exposures.
- Includes molecular and cell biological studies focused mainly on the biology of non-protein-coding RNAs.
- The fellow will be expected to coordinate a multi-site collaboration which will include coordinating the receipt and analyses of biological samples and data reporting.
Data analysis
- Compiles data and statistical analyses.
- The fellow will be responsible for multivariable-types of data analyses and the curating and reporting of large datasets to appropriate agencies like NCBI.
Creating research reports
- Conducts searches of the scientific literature.
- Writes reports, journal articles and makes presentations at scientific meetings.
Oversight of animal colony
- Collaborate with other laboratory personnel on animal breeding and rodent colony maintenance.
Other Duties
- Performs other duties as assigned.
