About the role

We have an exciting opportunity to join the British Academy Global Professorship team in the School of Archaeology as our Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Archaeobotany.

You will play an important role in the exploration of the contribution of farming and animal raising to urbanisation.

You will be responsible for carrying out archaeobotanical research, analysing plant remains from Great Zimbabwe to illuminate plant human relationships in this ancient state.  You will work as part of a small team which includes colleagues from the School of Archaeology.

You will be working in one of the few places in the world where three aspects of archaeology (prehistoric archaeology, classical and historical archaeology, and science- based archaeology) exist within the same School, something that we see as a key strength and distinguishing feature, tackling some of the major challenges facing the world, including sustainable resource utilisation, migration, justice, poverty and development.

About you

You will have a relevant PHD/DPhil in Archaeology or relevant discipline, supplemented by broad-based, relevant experience in archaeobotany, with proven and demonstrable technical skills, including recovery, identification and analysis of diverse archaeobotanical remains.  You will possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to work within established research programmes.  You will have highly effective verbal and written communication skills including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results and represent the group at meetings.
