Postdoctoral position in the framework of the project entitled  „Enhanced Single Crystal Applications and Research in the Growth of new Optical rare earth-based compounds for sustainable and efficient Technologies (ESCARGOT)”

I. Project description.

The ESCARGOT project aims at obtaining new or unconventional crystals of oxides and fluorides, doped with rare-earth ions, with improved quality for optical, magneto-optical and laser applications. Different growth methods will be used such as Czochralski, Bridgman and Flux methods. Numerical modelling will be used in order to optimize the different growth processes. Crystals will be oriented and shaped then characterized by optical spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction as well as by various chemical (EPMA, LIBS, GDMS) and physical (i.e. magnetic properties) techniques.

Skills/Qualifications

Knowledge of:

• Heat and mass transport phenomena (conduction, convection, diffusion, black body radiation, thermochemistry);
• Synthesis and sample preparation: solid state chemistry, grinding, cutting, polishing;
• Crystal growth methods (Bridgman, Czochralski and Flux Methods);
• Crystal characterization: X-rays Diffraction, Laue method;
• Chemical characterization: EPMA, ICP, LIBS, GDMS;
• Spectroscopic characterization (absorption, emission, excitation spectroscopy near UV, visible, near IR and life time measurements);
• Magneto-optical properties of materials;
• Numerical tools for processing and disseminating scientific results: Origin, Paraview, Office;
• Fluency in scientific English language.
