You will also enjoy outstanding benefits, professional growth opportunities, and the chance to be a part of an important mission.Summary:Position Description: The Neurodegenerative Aggregating Proteins Supergroup (NAPS) within the Geriatrics Research and Clinical Center (GRECC) seeks an experienced or entry level research assistant who works well with others to join our multi-disciplinary collaborative research team. The NAPS collaborative is led by Drs. Benbow, Kow, Kraemer, and Liachko, all of whom are faculty in the University of Washington School of Medicine. These laboratories are located on the VA Medical Center Campus in Seattle, Washington. This research collaborative studies the molecular genetics of neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease, frontotemporal lobar degeneration, progressive supranuclear palsy, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. This is a full-time position working on a research project supported by NIH R01 funding.We offer: a highly stimulating and collaborative scientific work environment in a large laboratory with state of the art research equipment and cutting edge microscopy facilities. This position includes full benefits and compensation at the NIH stipulated pay scale for postdocs.   • A PhD in a relevant field of the biomedical science
  • Experience designing and executing well controlled experiments
  • Strong writing skills
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as a cooperative part of a team

Beneficial Knowledge/Experience/Skills may include:

  • Experience with genetic analysis methods in model organisms, especially C. elegans or mice
  • Experience in assessing protein expression and function
  • Experience in advanced microscopy techniques
  • Experience developing assays
  • Experience in drug discovery
  • Experience with bioinformatics including transcriptomic analyses
  • Knowledge of RNA binding protein function
  • Knowledge of the pathobiology of neurodegenerative disease
  • Knowledge of the biology of aging and disease
  • Knowledge of neurobiology
  • Knowledge of protein aggregation and or liquid-liquid phase separation
