Postdoctoral Fellowship to Study Immune Regulation in Aging

The immunology of aging and aging-associated diseases is an emerging new scientific field with important clinical and commercial implications. As such, if you are a highly-motivated and ambitious young scientist, this field will provide you with a fantastic opportunity to establish your future independent and highly competive research niche. Recent findings from our laboratory, the Immunoregulation section, the National Institute on Aging, have only started scratching the surface of this exciting new field. For example, we reported that aging converts B cells into potentially pathogenic, insulin resistance-promoting cells via targeting gut microbiota (Bodogai et al., Science Transl. Med., 2018); and B cells promote manifestation of Alzheimer’s disease (Ki et al., Nature Communic., 2021). Now we also see that the cancer outcome in aging depends on B cells, but the mechanism of this process remains unclear. To elucidate these and other related questions in immunology of aging, including the role of B cells and CD8+ T cells in manifestation of Alzheimer’s disease or cancer escape and metastasis, we are seeking an ambitious and highly motivated Postdoctoral fellow. The work will involve modeling studies in mice and use of latest tools, such as immune cell and microbiome sequencing, scRNA-seq, ATAC-seq, flow cytometric and immune fluorescent staining of murine and human tissues, and generation of novel recombinant proteins. For information about projects in the lab, please see our recent publications in PubMed or Google using keyword “biragyn”, or papers by Ki et al., Nature Communic., 2021; Bodogai et al., Science Transl. Med., 2018; Ragonnaud et al., Cancer Research, 2019; Chen et al., Nature Communic., 2022. The laboratory is located in Baltimore, MD.
