Plant Evolutionary Biology and Systematics Lab
Summary of Job Duties:
Supported by startup funds at the University of Arkansas, the research will involve disentangling evolutionary drivers of morphological diversity (i.e. pollination syndrome, adaptations to fire, habit) during a rapid radiation of plants. Primary responsibilities: Conduct population-level sampling of several related species in South America, acquire and maintain necessary collection permits, analysis of genomic datasets, statistical model testing, and dissemination of results (i.e. peer reviewed manuscripts, conference presentations). Ample opportunity exists to develop additional projects under the general theme of plant systematics. The post-doc will directly supervise undergraduate research assistants on the project and assist in mentoring graduate students.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
Ph.D. in biology, evolutionary biology, botany, bioinformatics, or a closely related field by the start date of the position
Experience with high-throughput sequencing approaches, bioinformatics, evolutionary models, and statistical analyses
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Respectful and ethical conduct within a diverse team of scientists
Willingness to conduct botanical fieldwork and mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students on related projects
Experience with field botany
Quantitative use of herbarium specimens
Experience and interest in botanical outreach activities
This is a 3-year appointment, renewable based on the need for the position, availability of funding, and continued satisfactory level of performance in the role.
