Minimum Experience/Education The Postdoctoral appointee must have recently (within the last eight years) been awarded a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g., Sc.D., M.D.)
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: The employee will have already acquired a Ph.D. or equivalent degree and should be able to exercise scientific judgment on a day-to-day basis. He or she will evaluate incoming information in the form of experimental data and observations, written literature documentation, and oral communications, and will use this information to make judgments about what step(s) will next lead to progress in the project(s)
Duties and Responsibilities The employee will carry out research on physics-based modeling for the safety and durability problems of solid-state batteries, funded by Department of Energy.
The employee will report to Professor Jun Xu and will be a senior member of Professor Jun Xu’s research group, supporting projects through original research, collaboration with other team members, and mentoring of students. The employee will also contribute to additional proposal efforts, thereby strengthening UNC Charlotte’s ability to attract external funding. The employee’s principal research responsibilities will be conducting physics modeling of the solid-state batteries upon various working scenarios. The employee will confer with Professor Jun Xu on overall research direction and strategy but will exercise a considerable amount of independent judgment and original thinking in carrying out research that contributes to original knowledge and advances the University’s reputation in research. The employee will publish research results, in collaboration with Professor Jun Xu, in recognized journals. The employee will share student mentoring with Professor Jun Xu and will participate in departmental seminars and other professional activities as assigned.
Other Work/Responsibilities This employee will not supervise other employees or student worker. Position will act independently and receive general guidance from Professor Jun Xu
Necessary Licenses or Certifications 1. Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, specializing battery modeling.
2. A strong experimental and theoretical background with evidence of skills related to battery modeling, and solid mechanics.
3. A good understanding of material selection and structure design
4. A good experience of numerical computation software such as s COMSOL and ABAQUS
5. A strong publication record with at least five first-authored/corresponding-authored papers in prestigious energy/battery related journals.
6. With related research project experience is preferred.
