The Stockholm Resilience Centre (SRC) is a leading international centre in sustainability science for biosphere stewardship, at the Stockholm University. The SRC currently employs around 135 members of staff. It was founded in 2007 and is a joint initiative between Stockholm University and the Beijer Institute of Ecological Economics at The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.
Project description
We are hiring a Postdoctoral fellow in the field of healthy and sustainable diets, with a focus on just transformation of food systems. The candidate will work with the international EAT-Lancet 2.0 Commission (herein “the Commission”) which will conduct a systematic review of food systems and how to ensure healthy diets for all at a global scale, within planetary boundaries.
The interdisciplinary commission consists of 25 Commissioners from 19 countries, with backgrounds in e.g. public health, agriculture and livestock production, political science, behaviour change, food justice and environmental sustainability. The Commission has a greater focus on justice and diversity of regional and local diets in comparison with EAT-Lancet published in 2019. At least five Postdoctoral fellows and Early Career Scientists will be hired for of which one will based at SRC, with a focus on just transformation.
Main responsibilities
The overall scope of the Commission is to understand how to feed 10 billion people a healthy diet, within planetary boundaries, in ways that are affordable and accessible for all. The main responsibilities of this post doc position will be to work with the transformation working group of the Commission, and support Commissioners with analyses of different plausible transformation pathways sensitive to geographic, socio-economic, and cultural diversity. The analyses will be global in scope, but focus on diversity pathways in different geographic regions and for different socio-economic groups compatible with global outcomes of healthy, sustainable, and equitable food systems.
The candidate is expected to contribute to the core EAT-Lancet 2.0 publication, but will also have the opportunity to conduct standalone scientific papers in close collaboration with other researchers in the Commission. The candidate will also be given opportunities to engage with policy and business communities at the national and international level and will be provided training and mentorship on effective science communication.
The candidate will be based at SRC, at Stockholm University, but will work with researchers across the globe. The main supervisors will be Professor Line Gordon (SRC) and Professor Shakunthala Thilstedt, based at WorldFish, CGIAR in Penang, along with other Commissioners and Scientists in the Transformation working group. Interaction across working groups (Healthy Diets, Sustainable Production, Just Food Systems, and Food Systems Modelling) are welcome and encouraged. The postdoctoral fellow will also be part of a group of early career scientists connected to the Commission who will serve as a peer group supported by regular meetings and interactions.
Qualification requirements
Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.
Assessment criteria
The degree must have been completed at latest before the employment decision is made, but no more than three years before the closing date. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances. Special reasons refer to sick leave, parental leave, elected positions in trade unions, service in the total defense, or other similar circumstances as well as clinical attachment or service/assignments relevant to the subject area.
In the appointment process attention will be given to research skills needed for the position.
We are looking for a person who has the ability to work in an international, fast-paced environment. You are responsible, responsive, and a good team player. You are self-motivated, take responsibility for your tasks and have a structured way of working. You are used to prioritizing and can keep an overview of a complex organization while delivering on concrete tasks.
Terms of employment
The position involves full-time employment for a minimum of two years and a maximum of three years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date as per agreement.
