Postdoctoral Fellow in Genome Stability Maintenance—Princess Margaret Cancer Centre

The Harding Lab is seeking an enthusiastic, driven postdoctoral fellow to join our dynamic cell biology research group. Our research interests focus on the cellular responses to DNA damage and seeks to leverage this knowledge to improve therapeutics, especially radiotherapy and to gain insight into the etiology of cancer development. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in cellular models of cancer and a deep knowledge of cell biology especially the response to DNA damage and cell cycle progression. A major asset would be experience working in mitotic systems, CRISPR/Cas9 and comfort in the use of high content imaging methods including analysis.

The successful candidate will become part of a well-funded lab embedded in a diverse department at Canada’s largest academic research hospital network. We are affiliated with the University of Toronto and enjoy a diverse academic research environment in Toronto’s Discovery District.

Key responsibilities for this position include:

• Mapping of cellular fates following acute DNA damage
• Identifying mechanisms driving mitotic defects imposed by DNA damaging agents
• Data analysis and maintenance of proper documentation (lab journals, reports)
• Writing of scientific papers
• Contributions to general lab maintenance and functionality including guidance of more junior staff
• Participation and presentation at internal group meetings and to external audiences

Qualifications and Experience

• PhD in biological sciences
• Background in cellular biology, especially DNA damage and cell cycle signalling
• Demonstrated passion for research and ambition to make important contributions to scientific knowledge
• Intrinsic motivation and the ability to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Experience with standard cell and molecular biology methods including cell culture, transfection/transduction, western blotting, qPCR, fluorescent microscopy, cloning and CRISPR/Cas9
• Experience in high content screening, the biology of mitosis and/or intrinsic antiviral cellular response pathways are major assets
