Postdoctoral Fellow

Lawrence Berkeley National Lab’s (LBNL ) Nuclear Science Division has an opening for a Postdoctoral Fellow to join the team.

 

In this exciting role, you will conduct research in the general area of the nuclear structure. Current areas of focus are the structure of the heaviest elements and the structure of neutron-rich nuclei. The successful candidate will be expected to initiate research and contribute to the ongoing efforts of the Group. 

 

What You Will Do:

• Perform analysis of experimental data for complex nuclear structure experiments with stable and radioactive beams. 
• Communicate and disseminate results through preparation and publication of manuscripts, and presentations at scientific meetings.
• Develop ideas for future proposals.
• Contribute to the ongoing efforts of the Group by participation in discussions, experiments, helping with detector testing and development activities, and the like.

 

Additional Responsibilities as needed:

• Mentoring of PhD or undergraduate students.

 

What is Required:

• Ph.D. in Nuclear Physics/Chemistry/Engineering or related discipline within the last three years.
• Expertise in experimental analysis of complex data sets from nuclear structure experiments.
• Knowledge of gamma-ray spectroscopy and particle detection techniques.
• Experience with data analysis, use of ROOT and Geant4, and C/C++/Python computer programming.
• A demonstrated ability to perform research individually and as part of a research group.
• A publication and presentation record that demonstrates proficiency in dissemination of scientific results.

 

Notes:

• This is a full-time, 1 year, postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs. You must have less than 3 years of paid postdoctoral experience. Salary for Postdoctoral positions depends on years of experience post-degree.
• This position is represented by a union for collective bargaining purposes.
• Salary will be predetermined based on postdoctoral step rates.
