Job Details:
The Hamilton Lab at the University of Texas, Austin (PI: Liberty Hamilton, PhD) is seeking to fill a postdoctoral research position. Research in the Hamilton Lab focuses on understanding the development of speech and sound processing in the human brain. The lab uses a combination of intracranial electrophysiology in patients with epilepsy, scalp EEG in healthy controls, neuroimaging, behavior, and computational and statistical models to answer these questions. The position will involve direct interactions with pediatric epilepsy patients in the hospital, as well as analysis of neurophysiology and neuroimaging data. This position is based in Austin, Texas and includes the possibility of traveling for site visits in Houston, Texas. This position is currently funded for one year, with the potential for renewal depending on funding availability and performance.
This position involves work under the aims of an NIH-funded grant from the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders.
Experimental design, data collection in intracranial patients
Conducting data analyses and generation of presentations and manuscripts from research findings
Organization of data and code for data sharing in accordance with funder requirements
Mentorship of graduate students
A doctoral degree in Neuroscience, Psychology, Computer Science, Biomedical or Electrical Engineering, or related fields. Must have been received within three years of start date.
Strong quantitative and coding skills
Experience with collecting and analyzing neurophysiology data (broadly defined – could be scalp EEG, neurophysiological recordings in animal models, intracranial EEG, MEG, etc.)
A publication record that reflects experience with electrophysiology data, quantitative analysis methods, and/or machine learning
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Exceptional time management and organizational skills
Prior experience interacting with human participants in research
Prior experience working with children
Experience using python for data analyses
Prior experience with linear regression models, linear mixed effects models, time series analysis, machine learning
Experience applying for external funding
Strong oral and written proficiency in Spanish
$60,000 + depending on qualifications

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
