Job DescriptionJob Title: Postdoctoral Associate- NeuroscienceDivision: PediatricsWork Arrangement: Onsite onlyLocation: Houston, TXSalary Range: Hiring up to $62,000FLSA Status: ExemptWork Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.SummaryThe Translational Imaging Group (TIGr) in the Department of Pediatric Radiology at Texas Children’s Hospital/Baylor College of Medicine has an immediate opening at the Postdoctoral Associate level, in the area of Neuroscience and Nanomedicine. This position is funded by a recent grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).Job Duties

  • Develops cutting edge nanoscale targeted drug delivery technologies for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. The primary goal of this position is the immunohistochemical characterization of mouse brain tissue treated with theranostic nanomedicinal agents targeted to pathological markers of neurodegenerative disorders.
  • Defines problems and possible solutions as dictated by assigned research projects.
  • Establishes procedures to be applied in the projects
  • Designs, develops, or adapts equipment used in experiments.
  • Performs cell culture studies, animal injections and brain tissue perfusion and fixation for immunohistochemical analysis, confocal microscopy imaging.
  • Performs western blot and PCR analyses.
  • Compiles, writes, submits project results for publications and presentations at national and international scientific meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will hold a doctoral degree in neuroscience, biology, or biochemistry and has demonstrated experience biological assays, cell cultures, mouse brain tissue perfusion and fixation for histochemical analysis, mouse colony management, western blotting techniques, PCR techniques, flow cytometry, and technical writing.
  • Hands-on experience with imaging flow cytometry, brain tissue homogenization, homogenate analysis protocols, and cell lysing methods are a plus.
  • Skills required for satisfactory performance in this job include Protein purification, Confocal Microscopy, Imaris analysis software techniques, UV-Visible Spectroscopy techniques; 96-Well Plate Readers; Flow Cytometry, Cell Cultures; Cell Assays, Cell Lysing methods, Mouse Injections, Brain Tissue Manipulation Protocols, and Technical writing. In addition, the candidate should have experience Statistical Data Analysis, Operation of Standard Laboratory Equipment.
  • The preferred candidate will have a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Biology, or Biochemistry with a minimum of 5 years experience in scientific research.
