Postdoctoral Associate


Position Function:
Disease Ecology/Microbiome Postdoc! Come join an incredible collaborative team with the power to do experimental host-pathogen work on disease transmission with a cultureable marine pathogen. Full-time position in a National Science Foundation Ecology and Evolution of Infectious Diseases (EEID) funded project, focused on understanding controls on Eelgrass Wasting Disease. The EEID project includes experimental lab, field and modeling components and 4 different postdoc positions. This postdoc position is focused on experiments to test the role of the eelgrass microbiome in disease resistance and controls on disease transmission and will be resident at Friday Harbor Laboratories for all or part of the year.
Anticipated Division of Time:
The Postdoctoral Associate will spend approximately:
  • Running lab experiments and field surveys (60%)
  • Data Analysis/Mentoring (20%)
  • Writing and reviewing papers (20%).

Required Qualifications: 
A Ph.D. in Marine Molecular Ecology or equivalent is required; must have experience with microbiomes and molecular methods to support microbiome research. Familiarity with marine ecosystem dynamics and marine or terrestrial disease processes is desirable. Applicant is expected to prepare research results for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals, make project presentations at national and international scientific meetings, and attend project-related meetings and workshops. 
The initial appointment is for one year with likely renewal for a second year, pending satisfactory review of the first year’s performance.
