Summary

The Burrin Lab is seeking a postdoctoral fellow seeking to gain training in pediatric nutrition and gastroenterology and hepatology. The laboratory is located in the USDA Children’s Nutrition Research Center and Baylor College of Medicine in the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical center in the world. The research in the Burrin Lab is focused on understanding how nutrition influences the growth, development and risk of diseases in premature infants. The Burrin Lab has pioneer various large animal models that are used to investigate clinically relevant nutritional questions and diseases in premature infants. The candidate will be responsible for leading their own project and collaborating in several other projects in the laboratory.  We place a high priority on career growth of postdoctoral fellows and will work to mentor candidates to advance their training in nutrition, physiology, cell and molecular biology, as well as manuscript writing and grantsmanship.

Job Duties

  • Designing research projects.
  • Conducts experiments.
  • Analyzes and interprets results.
  • Publishes manuscripts.
  • Prepares first-author manuscripts and collaborates with other laboratories, and travels for presentations at conferences.
  • Receives a wide range of training in large animal surgery, clinical nutrition support, cell culture, ELISA assays, gene expression and histopathology.
  • Attends various training activities in the CNRC fellowship program including presenting and attending weekly seminars and workshops and monthly journal clubs.
  • Attends seminars and workshops in Pediatric GI Section and Texas Medical Center Digestive Disease Center.
  • Submits abstracts and attends local and national scientific meetings.
  • Presents and attends regular meetings of the Burrin Labs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, organized, and able to work both independently and collaboratively with other members of the laboratory.
  • Ph.D. in animal science, nutritional science, physiology.
  • Desire to work with large animals and assist with surgical procedures.
  • Good organizational skills, strong work ethic, good interpersonal communication skills and ability to work in team research.
  • Eagerness to learn new techniques and concepts.
  • Eagerness to develop resiliency under conditions of demanding work schedules
