Recruitment/Posting Title Postdoctoral Associate
Department GSAPP – Clinical Psychology
Salary Open
Posting Summary The Center for Youth Social Emotional Wellness (CYSEW) in the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology (GSAPP) at Rutgers University-New Brunswick invites applications for a postdoctoral fellowship position; start date is flexible. The mission of the CYSEW is to promote youth mental health equity; defined as the right to access quality mental health care regardless of the individual’s race, ethnicity, linguistic literacy/proficiency, gender, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, disability status, or geographical location. Center faculty work with youth of all ages but consistent with the Rutgers Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (RYBHI) which led to the creation of CYSEW, have particular passion and expertise for promoting positive mental health and wellness for adolescents and emerging adults.
Under the umbrella of mental health equity, postdoctoral fellows may have an interest in the integration of mental health care into school and primary care settings to increase access to evidence-based care, impact of intersectional identities (e.g., gender, ethnicity, disability, neurodivergence) and racism on mental health access and outcomes, and/or development and implementation of brief and resource efficient mental health interventions to facilitate widespread adoption. CYSEW faculty have on-going prevention and intervention studies focused on using technology (e.g., brief online intervention and virtual reality) to make it possible to scale up evidence-based programs that address ADHD symptoms and alcohol/substance use problems. Faculty conduct school- and community-engaged research with the needs of the community driving the CYSEW research agenda.
Postdoctoral fellows in this position will have access to longitudinal and treatment outcome datasets to publish from and will collaborate with faculty on grant proposals. Applicants will ideally have strong analytic/statistical skills in order to take full advantage of these opportunities. Applicants should also have expertise with mental health assessment, including using semi-structured diagnostic interviews to diagnose ADHD and common comorbid conditions. Importantly, 50% effort will be protected time for publication and grant writing and fellows will have the opportunity to write grants to support their own programs of research. The other 50% effort will be devoted to supporting the director in implementing and growing CYSEW community-engaged activities such as speaker series, conferences, a mental health equity summit, and community-driven program evaluation contracts. GSAPP has a thriving mental health clinic where the fellow can gain hours towards licensure. This is a one-year position with the opportunity to continue for second year depending on the fellow’s performance and funding.

GSAPP is nationally recognized and ranked for its excellence in the education and training of professional psychologists and the clinical research of its faculty. The postdoctoral fellow will benefit from established links between CYSEW and GSAPP’s Clinical, School and Applied Psychology Departments and with the Rutgers Addiction Research Center and the Brandt Center.
Rutgers and GSAPP are committed to equity, inclusion, and supporting diversity across the school and faculty across all dimensions of diverse identities and circumstances; we encourage applications from all competitive applicants, with attention to encouragement of applicants from under-represented groups. Applicants should have a doctorate in Clinical or School Psychology, or a closely related field at the time the fellowship starts. Salary and benefits are consistent with NIH guidelines.
