The primary responsibility will be to participate in leading our research activities targeted towards understanding control over structural symmetry and related properties in halide perovskites (particularly among lead-free versions), as part of our DOE EFRC research center with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and other institutions. This project may typically involve bulk, single crystal, and thin film sample preparation of new semiconducting and magnetic metal halides, establishing crystal structures and an understanding of how the structural features impact symmetry characteristics, developing methods to measure the impact of symmetry breaking and structural distortion (e.g., piezoelectricity), and interfacing with our numerous collaborators. Further, developed expertise in sample preparation and structural characterization may also be extended for use with another DOE project that focuses on similar symmetry-related targets in multinary chalcogenide based systems. Finally, the position will require presentation of results at group/project meetings and conferences, writing reports/proposals/manuscripts for the funding agencies and journals, mentoring and collaborating with undergraduate/graduate members of the group, and possible involvement with outreach or teaching activities.
