The Department of Molecular Virology and Microbiology is a multidisciplinary and highly collaborative unit with strong emphasis on basic and translational research.A Postdoctoral position on understanding viral diversity and pathogenesis of mucosal gastrointestinal infections is available in the laboratory of Dr. Sashi Ramani in the Department of Molecular Virology and Microbiology. The Postdoc will also be involved in collaborative projects with Dr. Atmar and Dr. Estes on the analysis of 16S rRNA and WGS microbiome and virome datasets from clinical samples and will include deployment and development of state – of – the – art analysis pipelines. TThe Postdoc will also utilize organoid cultures to functionally assess how the microbiome and virome influence viral pathogenesis. Our research groups have pioneered use a human organoid cultures for discovering mechanisms that regulate host-virus interactions and pathogenesis of human enteric virus. We employ a broad array of techniques including virological assays, molecular biology, immunology, genetic modification of cells, and glycobiology to discover on a mechanistic level how microbiome/host interactions influence replication and pathogenesis of clinically relevant human enteric viruses. Our overall goals are to identify new methods to treat and prevent infections.Job Duties
