| The Water Policy Program (WPP) at Duke University’s Nicholas Institute for Energy, Environment, and Sustainability plays coordinating and facilitating roles across a variety of water policy innovation areas. The WPP developed and launched the Internet of Water to coordinate efforts among states and federal agencies to develop and implement policies and procedures to share data, demonstrating the value of integrating water data. The WPP has also collaborated with the US Army Corp of Engineers, EPA, and Bureau of Reclamation for adapting policies related to flood control and drought response and recovery. Further, the WPP collaborates with the public and private sector for developing innovative approaches to addressing needs related to aging infrastructure. The WPP seeks a postdoctoral associate to conduct water science & policy research, review and synthesize relevant data, and provide data analytics to understand, frame, and analyze challenges, particularly those related to disasters and climate change. The position is supported by a corporate philanthropic grant aimed at promoting water policy innovation that is currently active and needed in areas related to water data, infrastructure, and disaster recovery, adaptation, and resilience. The postdoctoral associate will be part of a vibrant community of scholars at Duke’s Nicholas Institute for Energy, Environment, and Sustainability. The position is for a one-year term with renewal anticipated upon satisfactory performance. Programming skills particularly with R and Python, and experience with managing and synthesizing large data sets, particularly those related to water and climate are prerequisites; experience with climate modeling, remote sensing and image analysis, and multi-dimensional data are desirable. Interested applicants should submit their CV, a statement of research interest, and names of 2 references to academic jobs online and ashley.ward2@duke.edu. Duke aspires to create a community built on collaboration, innovation, creativity, and belonging. Our collective success depends on the robust exchange of ideas-an exchange that is best when the rich diversity of our perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences flourishes. To achieve this exchange, it is essential that all members of the community feel secure and welcome, that the contributions of all individuals are respected, and that all voices are heard. All members of our community have a responsibility to uphold these values. |
