Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee in Cancer Pharmacology at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
The primary purpose of the Postdoctoral Appointee position is to conduct research investigation into the characterization of oncogenic and tumor suppressor enhancer regions, as well as on the dissection of the interplay between metabolism and epigenetics in T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (T-ALL) using mouse models under the supervision of the Principal Investigator. Performs research, experiments, and laboratory techniques of a specialized nature under direct supervision of the Principal Investigator. Drafts written reports for inclusion in manuscripts and grant proposals.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Conducts research experiments to understand the role and mechanisms of oncogenic and tumor suppressor enhancers as well as the interplay between metabolism and epigenetics to unveil new therapeutic strategies.
  • Being able to effectively work with mouse models in vivo and perform FACS analyses.
  • Prepares written reports of the research experiments.
  • Prepares grant proposals based on the research conducted.
  • Gives oral presentations of the research.
  • Assists with the instructing and training of students, fellows, lower-level professionals, and technicians in laboratory technicians, instrumentation, etc. to develop the skills necessary to perform the required functions.

COVID-19 Immunization Requirement Under Policy 60.1.35 , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Ph.D. and/or M.D. in a relevant science finishing their training (following their residency and/or fellowship) who wish to prepare for careers in academic medicine. 
  • Similarly, experience with FACS analyses or the ability to effectively learn this technique will be needed. 
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Effective oral and written communication skills. 
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Background in cancer biology research.
  • Experience with mouse colony management and mouse experiments in vivo. 
Equipment Utilized
Physical Demands and Work Environment PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing, sitting, walking, talking or hearing. No special vision requirements. Lifting up to 25lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Laboratory environment. Moderate noise. Exposure to blood, excrement, antineoplastic drugs, and possible exposure to infectious and communicable diseases. Universal precautions are mandatory. Exposure to hazardous chemicals.
