Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

The Experimental Neutrino Physics Group at Iowa State University invites applications for two postdoctoral research positions. ISU work on current and upcoming neutrino experiments (ANNIE, NOvA, and DUNE) blends a robust science program with cutting edge instrumentation development and testing. Successful candidates for these positions will primarily focus on ANNIE and DUNE.

The ISU group is a leading institution on the Accelerator Neutrino Neutron Interaction Experiment (ANNIE). This experiment is an advanced R&D detector at Fermilab, designed to measure the neutron yield of GeV-scale neutrino interactions in gadolinium-doped water. To accomplish this measurement, ANNIE will rely on newly developed Large Area Picosecond Photodetectors (LAPPDs) and the development of novel experimental techniques. The first of these LAPPDs has been installed in ANNIE, with more to come over the coming months. An ambitious postdoctoral researcher will be entering the experiment at a time when we have exciting new data to analyze, but commissioning is still ongoing. This is a rare opportunity to develop expertise in novel instrumentation and see an experiment through commissioning, operations, and data analysis. Successful candidates will be encouraged to take on leadership roles in these areas.

The ISU group is also heavily involved in DUNE, the next generation long-baseline experiment that will seek to disentangle the mass hierarchy and CP violation and detect the neutrino burst signature from the next Galactic supernova. The DUNE design plans call for the world’s largest liquid argon detector, making it a cutting-edge facility for neutrino science. A postdoctoral researcher in the group will have a chance to play a major role in the design and commissioning of this experiment which could transform our understanding of the origins of the Universe. Current interests of the group include but are not limited to supernova neutrino burst detection and novel methods for imaging and quality testing electronics that must operate at cryogenic temperatures.

This position is a one-year term with the opportunity for renewal based on performance and funding.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

PhD in Experimental High Energy Physics

Preferred Qualifications:

• Skills to work in both data analysis and detector development
• Experience in both data analysis and instrumentation development
