Offer Description

The postdoctoral researcher is expected to lead numerical developments in the Idefix code in order to perform on-the-fly radiative transfer calculations and use these developments to model magnetized protoplanetary disks.
The selected candidate will be encouraged to develop their own projects and interactions with other lab members.

The position will focus on the development of a radiative transfer module in GPU-accelerated code with the aim of modeling protoplanetary disks and predicting some of their observational signatures.
The postdoctoral researcher will join the ERC-funded MHDiscs project. The MHDiscs group is led by Geoffroy Lesur at IPAG (France) and focuses on modeling the interaction between discs and the surrounding magnetic field.

The Institute for Planetary sciences and Astrophysics, Grenoble (IPAG)
is a joint laboratory of 150 persons of the CNRS National Institute for
Universe Sciences (INSU) and of the Univ. Grenoble Alpes (UGA).
The IPAG will provide all the necessary resources (office, workstation,
scientific environment) to carry out this work within the dynamic
Sherpas team. The PhD student will join our research group working on
the MHDiscs project led by Geoffroy Lesur.

Eligibility criteria

A PhD in physics, astronomy or a similar field is required. Prior experience in magneto-hydrodynamics and the dynamics of astrophysical discs will be appreciated. Developer experience in C/C++ will be a plus.
The position is for 10 months starting on October 1st, 2023. Remuneration depends on experience. There is a dedicated budget for the missions.
