The Post Doctoral Scholar will work with a collaborative team of researchers at The Ohio State University, Utah State University, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service by leading population modeling projects associated with endangered species management. The Post Doctoral Scholar will initiate and lead detailed, critical research to assess the population dynamics of invasive Ictalurus sp. to inform management and recovery of endangered species. Primary duties include leading development of population modeling, writing, and managing code, data management, and writing scientific papers. The Post Doctoral Scholar will prepare technical reports that discuss results and management implications and present technical findings at scientific and management meetings. The Post Doctoral Scholar will work on projects of moderate complexity, often dealing with several variables and messy datasets simultaneously. They will receive general guidance (possibly more detailed instruction on new projects) from the work-unit supervisor. They should be comfortable making independent judgements based on end points and parameters defined in project planning documents. All work conducted by the Post Doctoral Scholar will be reviewed by the work-unit supervisor for sound reasoning and accuracy. They will generally contribute to activities in the Pennock Lab and at the Aquatic Ecology Laboratory. These activities include mentoring graduate and undergraduate students. Duties include office and field work with opportunities to participate in laboratory work and may require working in inclement weather, evenings, and occasional weekends.
Required: PhD in ecology, biology, or related field. Relevant experience conducting research of populations, communities, or imperiled species. Specialized knowledge of population modeling or coding. Demonstrated ability to analyze population or community datasets using statistical and data management skills and demonstrated communication of project outcomes in written and presentation forms. Importantly, this individual must be able to work independently and as a team member.

The posting range for this position is $55,000- $60,000. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit’s available budget, and the candidate’s qualifications.
