What to expect

The III. Department of Medicine and the Hamburg Center for Kidney Health (www.hckh.org) at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf is dedicated to the care of patients and to experimental and clinical kidney research with a number of internationally leading research programs. You will be an integral part of a highly motivated and interdisciplinary team of scientists, students and clinicians aiming to identify mechanisms and new treatment options for various human kidney diseases.

We are looking for a highly motivated, curious and enthusiastic post-doc with experience in gene targeting technologies to join our lively and dedicated team. In particular, you will work on the development and establishment of protocols for targeted gene modification using adeno-associated viruses (AAV) and thus be significantly involved in the development of new and innovative therapy options for various kidney diseases. Particular focus will be on targeting metabolic kidney diseases, therefore knowledge in cell metabolism and metabolomics will be required. The position offers the applicant a unique opportunity to work on important medical issues in a community of interactive research labs, bioinformatics experts and a variety of methodological resources.

We offer a full-time position as scientific employee in the field of basic medical research at the UKE with the start at 01.01.2023. The position is third-party funded and the initial contract will be initially for 3 years with the possibility of further

What we look forward to

  • PhD in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology or a related field
  • Extensive experience in molecular biology and experience in AAV-mediated gene targeting
  • Profound knowledge of metabolomics technologies and methods is an advantage
  • Write research and review papers, and contribute to the peer-review process and grant writing
  • Highly motivated, team-oriented and enthusiastic with a strong scientific background
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a group as well as individually
  • Excellent organization skills and the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external collaborators
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
