Offer Description

The Tilburg Institute for Law, Technology, and Society (TILT) at the Tilburg Law School, Tilburg University, is looking for a Post-Doctoral Researcher in Digital Mental Health. Working in a small interdisciplinary team, it will be your task to conduct in-depth doctrinal and empirical research on technologies in and for mental health, in order to study their ethical, social and legal consequences. In addition, you will contribute to education within TILT, for instance in our LLM program Law & Technology. 

Within the interdisciplinary project entitled “Boundaries in Digital Mental Health: Ethical, Legal, and Social Issues in Negotiating Responsibilities”, the Post-Doctoral Researcher will conduct doctrinal and empirical research (e.g. interviews, observations) independently, though supervised by Dr. Tineke Broer. The researcher is expected to co-author on several publications, take the lead in organizing symposia, be a liaison person for other researchers in TLS who are working on digital health, and will present the research at conferences and symposia. In addition, for 20% of their employment, the researcher will participate in various Bachelor- and Master courses and will supervise thesis students. In addition to these key tasks and in light of team science and team spirit, the researcher is expected to actively participate in department meetings, research meetings, and TILT seminars, and to show an interest in the interdisciplinary work TILT is engaged in.

  • PhD degree, or near to finishing the PhD-thesis, in law, ethics, and/or social science, with a focus on digital health.
  • Recent (in the last 5 years) experience with either in-depth doctrinal research or with qualitative empirical research in digital (mental) health, or ideally both methodologies, demonstrated by publications commensurating with the career stage of the candidate finds her- or himself in her or his career.
  • Experience with interdisciplinary research, for instance as demonstrated in recent publications or in co-organizing symposia with scholars from a different discipline.
  • Experience with teaching on Bachelor and/or Master level.
  • Have near native-level command of English and shows a willingness to learn Dutch within the first two years of the employment.

For this position, we offer:

  • A position based on 0.8-1.0 FTE(32-40 hours per week); 
  • It is a vacancy for 3 years;
  • A salary of minimum €3.974 and maximum €5.439 gross per month for full time employment, based on UFO profile Researcher 3 and salary scale 11 of the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities . Tilburg University uses a neutral remuneration system for salary scaling that is based on relevant education and work experience.
  • You will be initially appointed as Researcher 4 with salary scale 10 when you do not holf your PhD degree yet;
  • Vacation allowance (8%) and a year-end bonus (8.3%);
  • Vacation days (41 days for a 40-hour work week);
  • Full reimbursement of commuting expenses for sustainable travel: walking, biking and public transportation;
  • Moving allowance;
  • Options Model for benefits and reimbursement of expenses;
  • Employees from outside the Netherlands may be eligible for a tax-free allowance of 30% of their taxable wages. We will apply for this reimbursement for you;
  • You will be enrolled in the General Pension Fund for Public Employers (ABP) through us;
