Job description

Do you want to work with a dynamic international team of pragmatic academics and thoughtful practitioners working to foster the change – and the diverse change-makers – the news media industry needs to thrive?

Dr François Nel, a Reader in Media Innovation & Entrepreneurship associated with the Media Innovation Studio group at UCLan, is looking for a researcher with a strong track record in writing for academic and industry publications to support the News Futures 2035 foresight project supported by the Google News Initiative.

The project will use a range of foresight methodologies, such as scanning the horizon for emerging changes, analysing megatrends and developing multiple scenarios, to reveal and discuss useful ideas about the future of public interest news in the UK.

We are looking for a social science researcher a solid track-record of publishing research-informed articles for academic and non-academic audiences to play a key role coordinating the project and producing the published reports. The successful candidate will have a good first degree (upper second class or first class honours) or a masters degree in a social science discipline or equivalent qualification/work experience and a PhD in the social sciences using qualitative and/or quantitative methods (e.g. economics, business, statistics, sociology).

We offer flexible working options that would typically include a minimum of one day a week in our office in the Media Factory in Preston in addition to periodic events and conferences. Occasional travel to national events will be required.

Applicants need to meet all essential criteria on the person specification to be considered for interview. This position is based in Preston.
