Job Summary: Under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee, The Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the Ph.D. or other doctoral degree.

Additional Department Summary: The Chemical and Biological Engineering Department at The University of Alabama is seeking candidates for a Postdoctoral position. This position is available to individuals with research experience working with catalysts, including zeolites and supported metal nanoparticles, as well as in measuring reaction rates in gas-phase reactors. Applicants should have expertise in gas chromatography, infrared spectroscopy, and materials synthesis and characterization (e.g., by XRD, N2 adsorption, TGA/DSC and ICP-OES).

Successful candidates will hold a terminal degree in Chemical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering or Chemistry or a related field and demonstrate a record of academic achievement in research. The College and/or the Chemical and Biological Engineering Department will establish a series of structured merit-based evaluations. Initial appointments are for one year, with renewal contingent upon demonstration of research productivity and available funding.

This Postdoctoral position will conduct research in the area of catalysis and in situ spectroscopy under the supervision of Dr. James Harris and Dr. Tonya Klein.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: PhD in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or a related field. Applicants must be US citizens.

Skills and Knowledge: Laboratory research experience with gas-phase reactors, catalyst synthesis and characterization, and infrared spectroscopy.

Preferred Qualifications: Research experience relating to fabrication of gas-phase packed bed reactors, in situ infrared spectroscopy, calorimetry, and zeolite synthesis.
